I hate to say it but I think the transfer from the original tape was too hot, and it overloaded the sound card on the computer. It's not clipping, just distorted. Pretty good sound in the lower volume spots, but I'll guess it was transferred through the mic jack on the sound card rather than the line in, which causes all those bass bumps when it gets loud, not to mention the distortion throughout. Original copy I received had almost no bass. This may have been someone's way of compensating for the additional distortion caused by the bass frequencies. Some tape deterioration may also have contributed to the less-than-desirable quality.
